We all know by now about the devastating firestorm that has raged through the Oakland and Berkeley hills. Thousands of people have been left homeless with no where to turn but to the relief services like the Red Cross and United Way that have been set up for this purpose. As we did two years ago after the earthquake, we need to help the victims of this latest catastrophe. Here is a partial list of what is needed. Keep in mind that it will be a couple of days before these items are delivered, so don't bring anything that is perishable: Eyedrops Bottled Water Boxed food Blankets Sodas Candy Pillows Juices Soap Sheets Baby Food Towels Bread Diapers Canned food (especially meats) Boxes will be set up in the Cafeteria to collect your donations, or if you prefer, you can bring them directly to H.R. Thanks, Sandi

In light of what happened in the Oakland hills last weekend, I looked at my home fire insurance policy again. Two years ago I was told $85/sq. ft. is the average price for building from the ground up, with tract-house quality. $75 per sq. ft. was low-end quality of materials, and over $100/sq. ft. was custom- home quality. I currently have enough insurance at $85/sq. ft., but would like to change it if necessary. Does anyone here have more up-to-date figures, due to getting recent quotes on home additions from a general contractor? Any info would help. Thanks in advance, Andrea
